About this Job

About the role

As a Hardware Functional Safety Engineer, you are responsible for ensuring safe, compliant, and well-structured hardware development across the full lifecycle.

You will enforce safety and development processes while helping modernise traditional hardware engineering into more automated, code-driven workflows. The role sits at the intersection of hardware engineering, quality assurance, and process leadership.

Working closely with internal engineering teams and external suppliers, you will help transform how safety and development artefacts are created, managed, and delivered. A key part of the role is enabling version-controlled, traceable, and machine-readable workflows aligned with modern engineering practices.

This is a role for someone who combines strong functional safety expertise with a drive to improve how things are actually done in practice.

What you will do

Functional safety & compliance

  • Ensure hardware development follows applicable functional safety standards and regulatory requirements

  • Own and maintain safety processes, requirements, and related documentation

  • Lead safety, validation, and quality reviews, including documentation and follow-up

  • Act as a key contact for audits and safety assessments

  • Support teams in meeting compliance, safety, and quality expectations

Process transformation & modern workflows

  • Drive the transition toward version-controlled, Git-based hardware development practices

  • Define structured, traceable management of engineering and safety artefacts

  • Collaborate with suppliers to enable delivery of machine-readable formats (e.g. YAML, JSON, structured markdown)

  • Support the design of automated workflows and CI/CD-inspired approaches for hardware engineering artefacts

Execution & continuous improvement

  • Lead process improvement initiatives across hardware teams and supplier interfaces

  • Track progress and ensure follow-through on safety and development activities

  • Provide guidance to engineering teams on compliance, tooling, and structured working methods

  • Ensure consistency and traceability across the full hardware lifecycle

Who we’re looking for

You are a structured and proactive engineer with a strong quality and safety mindset. You are comfortable driving clarity in complex environments and take ownership of both technical and process-related challenges.

You likely have:

  • A BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar

  • Experience from hardware development in the automotive industry

  • Strong knowledge of functional safety standards, especially ISO 26262 (hardware)

  • Experience with safety documentation, reviews, and compliance work

  • A structured working style with strong follow-up and execution skills

  • Confidence working across teams and with external partners

Why join

This is a role with real influence over how hardware safety and development are executed in practice.

You will help shape modern engineering processes in an environment that combines startup speed with industrial-grade expectations and stability.

You can expect:

  • A central role in shaping hardware safety and development practices

  • The opportunity to influence how future vehicle systems are engineered and validated

  • Close collaboration with experienced engineers and external industry partners

  • A culture focused on responsibility, structure, and continuous improvement

  • Work that directly impacts safety and reliability in real-world systems
