We are seeking a Graduate Firmware Design Engineer to join our team at Collins Aerospace Electronic Controls and Motor Systems, Solihull where we are working at the forefront of development of electric propulsion technologies, with motor and motor drive design being developed at our site. In 2026 we launched three new multi-year programmes as part of the Clean Aviation initiative, these programmes lead Europe in the development of technology blocks for futureaircraftwith entry into service expected in 2035.

Whatyou willdo:  

Supported by our experienced engineering team you will:

  • Produce VHDL design/code for motor control and protection applications

  • Produce VHDL design/code for lower-level FPGA device interfaces like ADCs, DACs, discrete inputs/outputs

  • Work on communication protocols like SPI, UART (SCI), CAN

  • Learn and apply the aerospace standards and processes as per DO-254

  • Participate in decomposing system requirements to firmware requirements

  • Participate in producing technical documentation, workinstructionor guidelines

  • Support system level integration testing

  • Liaise closely with other teams such as systems, hardware,softwareand project management

  • PromoteSTEMcareersatCollins throughevents and activities with schools and universities.

In this role you will have the opportunity to work on exciting aerospace projects which will help develop your engineering and personal skills in a practical environment.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • You must hold a minimum 2:2 STEM degree or joint-honours degree that combines a STEM subject with another, ideally Electronics Engineering.

  • Proficiency in VHDL coding and algorithms

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Able to multi-task and prioritise own work

  • Ability to build strong relationships and be a team player

  • A can do, find a way, attitude

  • Experience of delivering high quality work to a deadline

  • Creativity, initiative, diplomacy, self-motivationand self-confidence

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
