FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN / SENIOR FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN – CORPORATE ENGINEERING (HAYWARD, MN)

RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is accountable for providing technical support to our plants for Engineering R&D developed equipment. This can include planned repairs and modifications, training, and emergency repairs. This position also works closely with the engineering teams to support the machine development and building processes at the Engineering R&D facility in Hayward, MN.

The person in this position is responsible for:

  • Independently provide remote and on-site assistance to the plant maintenance teams to repair and maintain Engineering R&D built equipment.
  • Plan and execute machine modifications along with plant team members and contractors for Engineering R&D built equipment.
  • Providing detailed written reports on plant support activities, including necessary follow-up items.
  • Utilize the Rockwell software suite and other machine controls platforms to set up, maintain, and modify Engineering R&D built equipment.
  • Create schematics, Bill of Materials, work instructions, and other items necessary to document equipment projects so the plant maintenance teams can assume ownership. This will utilize tools such as AutoCAD, Excel, EAM, Word, and others.
  • Provide training to plant personnel as part of equipment commissioning and ongoing support. Additionally, provide training as part of the Engineering University program.
  • Support machine development and building at Engineering R&D by writing PLC code and testing / debugging equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Two year technical degree in mechatronics, robotics, automation, electronics, or similar degree program; or work experience in a comparable responsibilities.
  • Introductory level experience with the Rockwell software suite (or similar) and AutoCAD. Ability to grow in aptitude towards the Rockwell Logix Maintainer Certificate, UL Certification, and PMMI Certified Trainer Program.
  • Basic working knowledge of how PLC’s, VFD’s, HMI’s, servo systems, and industrial mechanics work together to make automated machinery function. Ability to develop into an expert in the maintenance and troubleshooting of these systems.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate technical subjects with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills. Ability to understand complex systems and how sub-systems are related.
  • Ability to travel overnight approximately 30% of time, including some weekends and holidays.

Preferred

  • Three years of work experience in a field service role maintaining highly automated equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing systems that include PLC’s, servo controlled motors, sensors and actuators, hydraulics and pneumatics, and other typical systems present in modern industrial machinery.
  • Certifications such as the Rockwell Logix Programmer Certificate, a MN Journeyworker Electrical License, the PMMI Mechatronics Certification, or similar.
  • Experience developing training materials and training maintenance, operators, and engineers about machine topics.
  • Ability to write PLC / HMI programs from scratch using a very similar example as a template.
  • Experience working in a food manufacturing plant.

At Hormel Foods, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The base hiring pay range for this role is between $30.50-$45.75 per hour, and your actual base pay within that range will depend upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skill set, level of experience, and geographic market location.
