Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Engineering Intern to support our initiatives in robotics, smart manufacturing, and automation within our shop floor operations. The ideal candidate will have a passion for applying emerging technologies to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety in aerospace manufacturing processes. This position requires initiative, ingenuity, the willingness to learn, and the ability to work independently. The primary role will be in assisting engineers on current projects such as automation of highly manual and repetitive processes, including gang channel assembly and tool-setting/tool-holder handling.
Essential Functions:
- Assist engineers on current automation projects, including highly manual and repetitive processes such as gang channel assembly and tool-setting/tool-holder handling.
- Support the development of business cases to justify automation initiatives, including cost-benefit analysis, ROI assessment, and process improvement evaluation.
- Contribute to conceptual design of automation solutions, including preliminary layouts, workflow optimization, and potential robotics integration.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to identify opportunities for technology implementation and process innovation.
- Gather and analyze performance data from pilot automation projects and recommend improvements.
- Document processes, test results, and conceptual designs for engineering review and standardization.
- Stay current on emerging technologies in robotics, automation, and advanced aerospace manufacturing.
- Perform other related duties or responsibilities as required
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Must be a U.S. Person as defined by the U.S. Government and able to work without restrictions with ITAR related data
- Current enrollment in a Bachelors or Masters program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Robotics, or related fields.
- Current GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
- Familiarity with programming (Python, C++, or industrial robot programming) is a plus.
- Strong interest in robotics, automation, and smart manufacturing technologies.
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving and quantitative skills.
- Enthusiasm for learning and applying technology to real-world manufacturing challenges.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively across disciplines.
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of the organization
- Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and standard business practices
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering work instructions
- Must have strong attention to detail
- Ability to travel domestically 5% max
