Engineering Manager / Tech Lead – Industry AI, Autonomous Asset Management

What You'll Do

At SAP, we are shaping the future of Industry AI by combining cutting-edge artificial intelligence with deep industry expertise to transform core business processes.

We are looking for a passionate, hands-on Engineering Manager to build and lead a new engineering team in Munich, focusing on Industry AI solutions for Autonomous Asset Management.

The team will develop and own reusable Industry AI templates and engineering assets, enabling the efficient development, deployment, and scaling of intelligent solutions across industrial customers.

This role combines technical leadership with people management. You will remain deeply involved in software architecture, coding, and technical problem-solving while building and developing a high-performing engineering team.

Your key responsibilities include:

• Lead hands-on engineering: Act as a technical lead, actively contributing to software architecture, design, coding, prototyping, and code reviews.
• Own Industry AI template engineering: Drive the end-to-end development and evolution of reusable Industry AI templates for Autonomous Asset Management, ensuring their quality, scalability, extensibility, and maintainability.
• Build reusable AI assets: Architect and develop modular AI components, including AI agents, reusable workflows, connectors, and other building blocks that accelerate the delivery of industry-specific AI solutions.
• Scale innovation: Transform successful AI use cases and customer-specific implementations into standardized, configurable, and reusable capabilities that can be adopted across customers.
• Advance AI technologies: Explore and apply emerging technologies in agentic AI, generative AI, knowledge representation, and intelligent automation to solve complex industrial challenges.
• Drive engineering excellence: Establish robust engineering practices across development, testing, integration, deployment, and ongoing software lifecycle management.
• Lead and grow the team: Recruit, mentor, and develop talented engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, ownership, and continuous learning.
• Collaborate across disciplines: Work closely with product management, industry experts, FDE delivery teams, and other engineering teams to translate business needs and technological innovations into scalable enterprise solutions.

What You'll Bring:

• Strong hands-on experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of designing and delivering complex, production-grade software solutions.
• Experience as a technical lead, software architect, or engineering manager, combined with the ability to coach and develop engineers.
• Excellent programming skills, and a strong willingness to engage deeply in code, prototype, architecture reviews while empowering teams to own implementation
• Ability to identify common patterns across customer use cases and translate them to reusable technical capabilities
• Practical experience developing AI-powered applications, ideally leveraging generative AI, and agentic AI frameworks.
• Strong understanding of modern software architecture, cloud-native development, APIs, distributed systems, and software engineering best practices.
• Experience designing reusable software components, frameworks, or platforms, with a strong focus on modularity, extensibility, and maintainability.
• Ability to balance rapid innovation with engineering rigor and long-term software quality.
• A builder mindset, strong technical judgment, and enthusiasm for bringing new technologies into real-world enterprise applications.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with fluency in English.

The following experience would be an advantage:

• AI agent orchestration, knowledge graphs, ontologies, retrieval-augmented generation, or decision intelligence.
• Industrial asset management, optimization, industrial IoT, or asset-intensive industries.
• Enterprise software development, SAP technologies, or enterprise integration.
• Experience developing reusable technology assets and scaling solutions across multiple customers.
