About this Job

TAMKO is seeking an Engineering Manager. This position reports to the General Manager. The Engineering Manager plans, directs, and coordinates activities concerned with design, construction, modification, and maintenance of equipment and machinery in the industrial plant. This position is responsible for all engineering operations for all plant areas, including engineering project management for the building, grounds, equipment, electrical systems, and control systems. The Engineering Manager also drives existing equipment process improvements in either operational or maintenance related functions. The Engineering Manager must be available as needed for equipment issues on nights and weekends to support the maintenance and production departments. This position does not have any direct reports.

  • Support the daily activities of all plant processes for operations, production, and maintenance activities.
  • Develop, plan, and execute capital projects for the plant through close collaboration with Operations and Maintenance personnel. Maintain the 3+ year capital plan up to date.
  • Utilize Six Sigma methodology or other process improvement methods to measure, correct, and control common cause process variation in the production process of the Glass Plant and Refinery.
  • Support maintenance functions as needed for equipment maintenance, reliability, and improvements.
  • Maintain the maintenance budget, reporting monthly and quarterly financial information. Prepare the annual budget.
  • Monitor ongoing expenditures, approve requisitions, obtain quotes, approve invoices, and explain variances.
  • Provide and coordinate any necessary training for personnel especially for plant reliability or equipment safety.
  • Lead or assist with completion of root cause problem elimination (RCPE) reports and associated corrective actions.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of plant equipment and system drawings, plant insurance, fire protection systems, vendor/contractor insurance requirements, the Management of Change Process, back flow valve testing, back up requisition ordering, and capital expenditures.
  • Coordinate with maintenance department for BOM updates and equipment changes. Responsible for ensuring Management of Change process is followed.
  • Responsible for planning and execution of required internal and external tank inspections.
  • Promote healthy teamwork, communication, and practices with all plant personnel.
  • Some travel may be required - <10%.

Position Requirements:

  • Master's of Science in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's of Science in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong people skills where one can be a servant leader and team player.
  • Understanding of data collection and statistical analysis - Six Sigma experience desired.
  • Ability to obtain Six Sigma certification if not already certified.
  • Excellent computer skills, including use of computer aided drawing software.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming, HMI controls, and the ability to design, develop, and implement process and machine control programming in Siemens and Allen Bradley PLC environments.
  • A good working knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and thermodynamics.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to position himself/herself to operate, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and/or or maintain heavy plant equipment. This may require climbing stairs/ladders, bending, kneeling, crawling, squatting and/or stooping. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and may occasionally lift or move heavier objects with assistance.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work around moving mechanical parts, at elevated heights, where dust and fumes could be present in the air, with or in proximity to chemicals, in hot environments, around electrical equipment, and in a loud environment. The employee must have the ability to understand and mitigate these and other risks, including by following all prescribed safety rules, and must have the ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, if necessary.
