This role provides exposure to real-world manufacturing challenges involving process optimization, maintenance support, quality systems, and industrial digitalization. Support both industrial IT/OT infrastructure and manufacturing plant engineering activities. Gain hands-on experience with of automation, data systems, and production operations. The intern will work and learn alongside controls engineers, IT/OT engineers, manufacturing engineers, maintenance technicians, and quality teams to support reliable, safe, and efficient plant operations.
Responsibilities
IT / OT Systems Support (≈50%)
Assist with industrial networked systems including: PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, MES, and industrial PCs
Support IT/OT integration efforts between manufacturing equipment and SCADA software using OPC-UA, MODBUS, SQL, etc. based data flows
Assist in documenting: Network topologies, System configurations, Standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Collaborate with corporate IT and plant engineering teams on system reliability and uptime
Manufacturing Engineering & Plant Support (≈50%)
Work directly on the plant floor to understand: Production workflows, Equipment operation, Operator and technician needs
Assist manufacturing engineers with: Process optimization and continuous improvement projects
Participate in quality and compliance activities: Data collection for quality metrics, Support investigations and corrective actions
Help create or update: Work instructions, Equipment documentation, Preventive maintenance records
Observe and support new equipment installation, commissioning, and validation
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in:- Electrical Engineering- Computer Engineering- Mechanical Engineering- Or related field, with an interest in Manufacturing environments- Strong interest in manufacturing environments and industrial systems- Ability to work safely in an industrial environment- Basic familiarity with at least one of the following:- PLCs or automation systems- Networking fundamentals- Programming or scripting (Python, SQL, ladder logic, etc.)- Strong communication and documentation skills- Willingness to split time between office, control room, and plant floor
- Preferred, but not required:- Exposure to:- PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.)- SCADA or HMI systems- SQL databases or data visualization tools- Familiarity with:- Industrial networking concepts- Manufacturing KPIs (OEE, scrap, downtime)- Prior internship, co-op, or hands-on technical experience
