Purpose:

Performs diversified functions specializing in instrument, electrical, & automation equipment maintenance. Analyzes malfunctions of instrumentation, electrical, PLC/DCS control systems and automation equipment. Determines necessary steps to repair equipment. Maintains instrument control loop drawings.

Job Functions/Accountabilities (Essential & Marginal):

  • Installs, maintains and repairs process control instrumentation & electrical controls including analyzers and packaging line equipment.
  • Ensures that work is in accordance with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Verifies and implements corrective action concerning instrument and electrical problems.
  • Assists in the planning, scheduling and execution of instrument and electrical work orders.
  • Participates in the development/ updating of instrument and electrical specifications and procedures.
  • Participates in achieving maintenance goals/objectives.
  • Initiates capital requests and recommends improvements and changes in the design and application of electrical and instrument equipment using the most current design techniques.
  • Works on project team to implement I/E related projects.
  • Contacts vendors/suppliers for quotes and initiates purchase requisitions as required.
  • Supports ISO and PSM compliance by performing the calibration of critical instruments, maintaining test equipment calibration certifications and the associated record keeping. Also participates in internal/external audits.
  • Maintains instrument control loop drawings.
  • Programs and troubleshoots PLC control logic and variable speed drives.
  • Performs root cause analysis for instrument and controls related failures.
  • Continuously seeks ways to improve performance of our plant's operation and ensures that your customer's (both internal and external) needs are met. Adhere to the quality system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Must be able to install, calibrate, repair and troubleshoot instrumentation loops with analyzers, pressure, level, temperature, and flow instruments.
  • PLC & HMI installation, troubleshooting, and programming skills preferred.
  • Distributive Control Systems programming knowledge beneficial; Must be able to install and troubleshoot electrical control systems including conduit, wiring, relays, field terminations, MCC breakers, and switches.
  • Good computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel and Outlook) and a good working knowledge of SAP.

Qualifications:

8 or more years related experience in chemical/petrochemical plant maintenance is required.

SA Level 2 certified control systems technician and DCS experience is preferred.

Work Conditions:

Chemical Plant/Manufacturing environment. An extensive amount of time is spent on the floor in a manufacturing plant environment. Plant environment is a multi-acre site. Typical daily assignments are physically demanding, requiring balancing, standing, cleaning, reaching, visual discernment, crawling, climbing, twisting, turning, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, full respiratory function and lifting.
