The hourly pay rate for this position is determined by the most recent academic year completed.

Who You Are  You are a college student who is currently enrolled, or a recent graduate of an accredited college/university majoring in a Computer Science, Electrical or Robotics Engineering discipline. You are technically capable, organized, and eager to apply your skills -- especially in Java programming -- to support educational robotics programs. With Gracious Professionalism® our ideal intern will demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

FIRST headquarters is in Manchester, New Hampshire, and we seek interns based in the New England area in order to orient the student to the organization and its culture through an in-person work experience.

Intern pay is determined by the intern’s most recently completed academic year. The Summer 2026 rates are as follows: Freshman $17.26; Sophomore $18.17; Junior $19.13; Senior $20.08; Senior plus 5th year engineering, $21.09; Masters 1st Year, $22.00; Masters 2nd Year, $25.29.

What You will Do The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Electrical Engineering Intern will support the FIRST strategic priority of lowering barriers to entry by contributing to the successful rollout of the new FRC robot controller and programming environment for the 2026–2027 season. Systemcore software projects which could include:

  • Driver Hub Systemcore Drivers Station (DS).
  • User Interface (UI) or other development work for Systemcore laptop DS.
  • Systemcore documentation or tutorial work.
  • Development assistance with Blocks environment.
  • Other Systemcore/Motioncore testing and/or development as needed.

What We Expect An individual with an interest and/or involvement in the advancement of STEM education programs who also possesses the following knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree program, or a recent graduate, majoring in a Computer Science, Electrical or Robotics Engineering discipline.
  • Experience with research, analysis, and subsequent recommendations.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 including SharePoint and Teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with the FIRST Robotics Competition Control System, including wiring and programming.
  • Experience in Java programming preferred.
  • FIRST Alumni status a plus.
