About this Job

Joby Overview

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

  • Collaboration with Avionyx and Joby management in developing/maturing:
    • A strategic roadmap for Avionyx’s electronic hardware service offerings
    • Our draft roadmap for embedded system development including board support packages, low-level drivers, and software architectures
    • Our draft roadmap for embracing artificial intelligence-based tools as part of our design methodology
  • Ownership of the previously noted electronic hardware development roadmap
  • Collaboration with the Avionyx and Joby People teams to ensure the staffing, skillsets, and overall capacity are all in place to successfully execute on company commitments
  • Shepherd the company’s work in building competency in DO-254 compliance
  • Shepherd the company’s effort to bring DO-254 services under their existing AS9100 certification
  • Mentor team members in electronic hardware development

Required

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 7+ years of experience as a manager of electronic hardware development
  • Familiarity and design involvement using high-speed technologies including:
    • Power conversion (linear and switching regulators)
    • High-speed digital design and layout (FPGAs, SoCs)
    • Signal conditioning and conversion (ADCs, filters)
    • Discrete semiconductor design (FETs, BJTs, Diodes)
    • High-speed multi-layer PCB design (100’s of components, 8+ layers)
  • Prior history of hands-on design work
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong understanding of state-of-the-art technologies, tools, and methods
  • Strong people and team management skills
  • Great communication skills including fluency in English

Desired

  • Advanced degree in relevant discipline
  • 15+ years of work experience with clear progression of increasing leadership scope
  • Design experience associated with high reliability / harsh environments
  • PMP certification
