Open the Door to Your Future with Clopay Corporation & CornellCookson

At Clopay Corporation, we are more than just North America’s largest residential and commercial garage door manufacturer—we are a powerhouse of innovation, safety, and design. Through our premier brands, we lead the industry in providing groundbreaking high-performance closure solutions for both the places people call home and the spaces where the world does business.

Headquartered in Mason, Ohio, and operating state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Troy, Ohio, Mountaintop, Pennsylvania, and Goodyear, Arizona, we are a proud American-owned company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Griffon Corporation. Our reach extends across 55+ distribution centers and thousands of retail locations in the U.S. and Canada ensuring that we deliver the right door for every opening – from homes to businesses and beyond.

By joining our team, you become part of a legacy that blends the residential elegance of Clopay, known as "America’s Favorite Garage Doors," with the industrial strength and 180-year heritage of our rolling brands, Cornell and Cookson.  Together, we secure everything from family garages to the world's most iconic stadiums and skyscrapers.

We are seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager to lead our New Product Development (NPD) team in our Mason, OH office. This is a hands-on “working manager” role for a leader who is passionate about both developing innovative technology and mentoring a talented team of engineers. You will be responsible for guiding our end-to-end electrical and IoT architecture while also personally driving key projects. The ideal candidate is a player-coach who can translate high-level strategy into execution, foster a culture of excellence, and build the next generation of engineering leaders at our company. Responsibilities include:

Technical & Strategic Leadership

  • Define the Vision: Develop a deep understanding of our products and markets to build and contribute to our long-term electrical technology roadmap, feeding the NPD funnel with unique and innovative solutions.

  • Govern IoT Architecture: Define and govern the end-to-end IoT architecture for new products, including device-to-cloud communication, security posture, OTA update strategy, and field diagnostics — ensuring designs are production-ready, not just prototype-ready.

  • Lead from the Front: Actively participate in and lead key projects, contributing directly to design, development, and problem-solving to set a high standard for technical excellence and drive project success.

Team Empowerment & Growth

  • Mentor & Develop Talent: Provide dedicated coaching to junior engineers to guide their skill development, while acting as a strategic partner to senior engineers to help them solve ambitious challenges.

  • Streamline Execution: Establish and maintain a transparent and efficient workflow for tracking, assigning, and reviewing engineering tasks to keep the team aligned and productive.

  • Foster a Thriving Culture: Build a team environment where individuals feel safe to voice ideas, admit mistakes, and take creative risks. Champion the celebration of team wins and recognize outstanding work to ensure every member feels valued and empowered.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.

  • 10-15 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, including 2-5 years in a direct management role.

  • A proven track record of bringing connected electrical products through the full development lifecycle—from early-stage prototyping and regulatory certification to manufacturing transfer and commercial launch.

  • Demonstrated experience delivering IoT-connected products, including a strong understanding of cloud architecture, device provisioning, OTA firmware update systems, and post-launch telemetry.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members.

  • Deep experience with firmware project management for safety-critical embedded systems, including development lifecycles and best practices for real-time embedded C on bare-metal and RTOS (ARM Cortex-M) environments.

  • Familiarity with hardware bring-up and debugging using standard lab tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) and communication protocols (e.g., SPI, I2C, UART, Modbus).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of safety-critical design principles and experience with product compliance (UL/FCC/CE).

  • Experience in the door and access systems industry or a related field (e.g., automation, mechatronics).

  • Knowledge of embedded security best practices such as encryption, secure boot, and authentication.

  • Working knowledge of various door safety devices and sensing technologies (e.g., sensing edges, light curtains, photo-eyes).
