The Opportunity: Electrical Engineering Intern

Join us as an Electrical Engineering Intern and dive into hands‑on innovation! In this role, you will put electrical and software engineering principles into action while exploring multiple areas of our R&D department. You get real, impactful experience by updating existing embedded electronic designs to integrate the latest microcontroller and sensor technology. Your work will span researching and identifying components, testing new sensor behavior directly in circuit, updating embedded firmware, and documenting your design enhancements.

Internship Duration and Schedule

This internship begins in June 2026 and continues through May 2027. Interns typically work 1215 hours per week during the semester, with flexible scheduling to fit around classes, and 40 hours per week in the summer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops ideas as part of a team or creates design concepts using CAD (computer-aided design) software
  • Participates in product ideation through brainstorming sessions, review of concepts, and interaction with cross-functional teams
  • Sketches initial design ideas and produces detailed, final drawings by hand or computer software
  • Creates written descriptions of new product ideas including how they look, work, and are built
  • Ensures that drawings comply with company formatting standards
  • Evaluates the suitability and availability of materials
  • Makes samples or working models by hand or using computerized prototyping equipment such as 3D printers, CNC Machining and rubber casting
  • Tests design concepts by computerized modeling or physical hands-on testing of models
  • Promotes a safe work environment using personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safety procedures
  • Performs other additional duties as assigned or required

What Were Looking For

  • Enrolled or a recent graduate in a degree program focused on Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Solid foundation in electrical engineering fundamentals
  • Able to hand solder through-hole and surface mount components
  • Knowledge of bug tracking tools, code repositories, and version control
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and work instructions
  • Works well independently and in a team
  • Good teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills

This will be an onsite position at Realityworks in Eau Claire, WI
