The Electronic Controls Technician II (ECT II) is a field‑focused role responsible for installing, integrating, and servicing electrical control systems, SCADA components, and automation equipment directly at customer sites. This position is heavily hands‑on and requires strong electrical troubleshooting skills, PLC integration experience, and the ability to independently resolve complex issues in active industrial environments.

The ECT II serves as the face of the company in the field—working directly with operators, maintenance teams, contractors, and project managers to ensure that newly installed or upgraded control systems function safely, reliably, and according to design.

This role requires weekly travel throughout Florida, with regular overnights based on customer site needs.

Primary Responsibilities

Field Installation & Integration

  • Install, wire, and commission control panels, PLCs, SCADA-connected devices, pumps, and instrumentation directly at customer facilities.
  • Perform conduit runs, field terminations, panel power‑ups, and device configuration.
  • Integrate equipment into existing control architectures, ensuring communication with SCADA platforms and automation networks.
  • Conduct site readiness checks, verify infrastructure, and coordinate with contractors and operators during installation.

SCADA & Controls Support

  • Configure and connect field I/O, communication networks, and PLCs used in SCADA monitoring and automated processes.
  • Validate signal paths (analog, digital, serial, Ethernet) and ensure proper communication between field devices and supervisory systems.
  • Assist plant operators and engineering teams with system functionality, alarms, and device calibration during startup.

Troubleshooting & Field Diagnostics

  • Serve as the primary on‑site resource for diagnosing electrical, PLC, and control system failures.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting when remote technical support cannot resolve an issue.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic indicators, system diagnostics, and device readings to quickly identify root causes.
  • Replace, adjust, or re‑wire components as needed to restore system functionality.

Panel Design & Testing (Supporting Tasks)

  • Develop wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and drawing packages for fabrication.
  • Perform functional testing of completed panels prior to field deployment.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering, product development, and project managers to support new installations, upgrades, and product launches.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, providing clear updates, recommendations, and post‑installation guidance.

Travel

  • Up to 70% travel throughout Florida with regular overnight stays to support field projects.

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in controls, SCADA systems, field electrical installation, or industrial automation.
  • Experience in water/wastewater, utilities, or industrial process control environments is a strong plus.

Required Qualifications

  • Proficiency with electrical design tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical).
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, SCADA-connected instrumentation, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Ability to read, create, and update electrical schematics.
  • Skilled in field wiring, conduit installation, multimeter use, and voltage/signal diagnostics.
  • Strong problem-solving ability in fast-paced field environments.
  • Ability to work independently, manage onsite tasks, and interface professionally with customers.

Working Conditions

  • Work performed in both indoor and outdoor industrial settings.
  • Exposure to heat, cold, humidity, confined spaces, and active process environments.
