KBR is seeking to identify a candidate for a Department Manager (DM) position within the Integrated Mission Operations Contract III (IMOC III) at the NASA Johnson Space Center’s Flight Operations Directorate (FOD) located in Houston, Texas. IMOC III is the operations contract for Human Space Flight Operations and includes the support of mission preparation (Plan); crew, flight controller, instructor, and analyst training (Train); and real-time mission execution (Fly) activities related to the International Space Station (ISS), Orion, Space Launch System (SLS), Gateway, Human Lander System (HLS), EVA and Human Mobility Program (EHP), Commercial LEO Destination (CLD), and Private Astronaut Mission (PAM) operations.
The DM position primarily supports the EVA, Robotics, and Crew Operations Division (CX) and the Robotics Operations Contract (ROC). The DM position reports directly to the Program Manager and is responsible for ensuring support of CX and ROC technical services tasked on the IMOC III including development and operations for the ISS, Artemis, Commercial Programs. This position includes company and competition-sensitive duties related to the IMOC III and other commercial space endeavors that requires establishing company and program strategies.
The EVA, Robotics, and Crew Operations DM is a second-level management position responsible with day-to-day oversight of five first level leaders and their direct reports within the department, including coordinating resource prioritization and allocation, and ensuring that the team completes its responsibilities within budget and schedule. In addition, the candidate is responsible for handling administrative tasks associated with the department’s leadership and administrative personnel such as performance rating, merit planning, career development, technical and leadership training, disciplinary actions, etc., and other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, and supervise three Technical Area Leads (NASA)
- Develop and maintain successful professional relationships with customers, stakeholders, peers, and direct reports
- Manage budget, staffing, and personnel performance to ensure all task order requirements are successfully met
- Report contract budget and employee performance status to the NASA division and office management on a regular basis
- Implement process improvements that benefit the program and customer
- Develop and implement strategies for customer and company success
Qualifications/Skills:
Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to effectively communicate with peers and direct reports in a very dynamic, fast-paced organization
Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate tasks and resolve issues within a contractor–customer environment.
Demonstrated understanding of the FOD’s overall mission and associated Plan/Train/Fly concepts
Proven experience as a capable contributor to FOD technical tasks and the ability to support assignments associated with IMOC III task orders
Ability to tactfully handle personnel issues
Experience recruiting and interviewing
Demonstrated ability to manage manpower, priorities and customer requirements
Effective at handling multiple tasks, flexible, and responds quickly to changes
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to interact across organizations and all levels of personnel
Experience with the IMOC III Management Information System is desired
Position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 15 years progressive relevant management experience.
