About this Job

Passionate about making ideas a reality? Join our welcoming world of tech and let your ideas soar.

Your role

We are looking for a talented and driven Data & Machine Learning Engineer to join our Airborne Early Warning (AEW) organization and help shape the future of data-driven development, testing, verification, and evaluation for one of the world's most advanced Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) systems, GlobalEye.

This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of Data Engineering, Analytics, and Machine Learning, helping establish and grow our data and machine learning capabilities. As part of an emerging area within the organization, you will develop technical solutions, explore new ways of working, and support the adoption of modern data-driven methods across engineering teams.

The primary focus of this role is to build and improve data pipelines, analytics capabilities, and machine learning solutions using data generated throughout the development and testing of the GlobalEye system. You will collaborate closely with test engineers, systems engineers, software developers, product owners, and domain experts to transform complex technical data into actionable insights and scalable solutions.

As a Data & Machine Learning Engineer, you will:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines for engineering and product data.
  • Develop and improve machine learning workflows and supporting infrastructure.
  • Analyze complex datasets and create solutions that generate measurable value for engineering and development teams.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers, software developers, product owners, and domain experts across the organization.
  • Help establish and mature data-driven ways of working.
  • Identify opportunities where analytics, automation, and machine learning can improve engineering processes, product quality, and decision-making.
  • Contribute to initiatives from concept through implementation and operational use.
  • Support colleagues and stakeholders in understanding and adopting data, analytics, and machine learning methodologies.

Your profile

We believe that success in this role is driven as much by mindset as by technical expertise. You are a self-driven, problem-solving, and proactive person who takes ownership of your work and thrives in environments where structures and ways of working continue to evolve. With a curious mindset and a passion for continuous learning, you enjoy exploring new technologies and approaches.

You are comfortable navigating ambiguity, creating clarity when needed, and driving initiatives forward both independently and together with others. Most importantly, you are motivated by solving complex challenges, creating value through practical solutions, and helping others embrace opportunities within data, AI, and machine learning.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience in software development, data engineering, analytics, machine learning, or a similar technical field.
  • Experience developing solutions using Python and modern data processing or machine learning frameworks.
  • Understanding of data pipelines, data modeling, and modern data processing concepts.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across technical and executive business domains.

Meritorious Experience

  • Experience with sensor data, sensor fusion, or real-time data processing.
  • Experience working with complex technical products or systems in highly engineered environments.
  • Knowledge of MLOps practices, model deployment, and workflow automation.
  • Experience with cloud-based Data & AI platforms
  • Experience with technologies such as Delta Lake, Iceberg, Kafka, Spark, Airflow, Dagster, MLflow, PyTorch, Pandas, JAX or other large-scale data & machine learning tools.
  • Military service and/or defence-related experience.

This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.

What you will be part of

Explore a wealth of possibilities. Take on challenges, create smart inventions, and grow beyond. This is a place for curious minds, brave pioneers, and everyone in between. Together, we achieve the extraordinary, each bringing our unique perspectives. Your part matters.

Transportation & Autonomous VehiclesRobotics Software & AIAerospace & Defense

For over 30 years our systems have operated in some of the most hostile environments on the planet and to depths of nearly two miles below the surface of the world’s oceans. Our pioneering technology has revolutionised the underwater robotics industry. In turbulent waters and pitch darkness, these remarkable vehicles can undertake missions that would be impossible by any other means. Tasks that range from gathering fragile Roman pottery, to recovering torpedoes; and from filming bioluminescent creatures, to creating detailed 3D scans of dam structures. Rapid advances in miniaturisation and intelligent control architecture are creating ever smaller and smarter robotic systems that are more agile and more powerful, and bring advanced technology to ever more complex tasks. Winning a worldwide reputation for creating highly sophisticated technology that is trusted to work at a diverse range of tasks in the most hazardous conditions is our proudest achievement. Over 80 percent of our systems are exported across the globe and used in diverse sectors that include oil and gas, renewables, marine science, aquaculture, hydro engineering, undersea mining, salvage, telecoms, nuclear, leisure, emergency and defence. Our parent company SAAB AB employs 14,000 people in over 30 countries.
