Position Title: Controls/PLC Technician
Tasks: This position is responsible for responding to downtime calls including troubleshooting, repairing, and effectively diagnosing problems across mechanical, electrical, controls, and automation systems. Responsibilities include: effectively estimating resources and time required to complete tasks; keeping customers informed of estimated repair time; supporting mechanical, process, packaging, refrigeration, electrical, and controls system training; troubleshooting, programming, and maintaining PLC- and HMI-controlled equipment; performing hands-on troubleshooting of PLCs, sensors, VFDs, robotics, and automation systems; and supporting continuous improvement initiatives related to automation and process optimization.
The role requires the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, PIDs, and control drawings; diagnose and repair control networks and communication faults; and document work completed while assigning time and parts to proper equipment codes so equipment repair costs can be accurately tracked. The incumbent will document modifications, changes, and repairs in the maintenance log and on drawings, review daily downtime reports, and develop plans to reduce downtime on assigned equipment.
Candidate must be able to individually lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds regularly throughout the shift. Candidate must have the ability to complete basic mathematical calculations in both American and Metric systems. Candidate will be trained on Lock Out/Tag Out responsibilities for safe operation and must be able to obtain and maintain a valid forklift/Powered Industrial Truck license.
This position may require working all shifts, variable schedules, weekends, and/or holidays.
Required: One year of experience or more leading workplace teams with the Company or equivalent industrial maintenance/controls experience. Possesses four of the following qualifications:
- Ability to diagnose and repair/install hydraulic components and systems
- Ability to diagnose and repair/install pneumatic components and systems
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair/install electrical components and systems
- Strong experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting using ladder logic, function block, and structured text
- Hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, sensors, VFDs, robotics, and industrial automation systems
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, PIDs, and wiring diagrams
- Knowledge of industrial networking protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus, and DeviceNet
- Ability to properly use shop tools and produce work within specified tolerances
- Ability to weld, cut, fabricate, and install components and systems as engineered or instructed
- Ability to change and update electrical prints (CAD).
Preferred qualifications include Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley certifications (e.g., ControlLogix, RSLogix/Studio 5000) and/or Siemens PLC training or certifications.
