The Construction Engineer documents contractor activities, verifies quantities, and identifies issues that may require a change order.

  • Supports review of network architecture, SCADA integration with central control, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Reviews contractor operations for compliance with OSHA regulations and Authority safety requirements.
  • Reviews communications and SCADA submittals, shop drawings, and test procedures.

  • Coordinates surveying, inspections, and verification testing, and coordinates daily reports and document control.
  • Completes Inspector Daily Reports (IDRs) and maintains complete and accurate project records.
  • Calculates and documents field quantities for payment purposes.
  • Identifies non-conforming work, communicates it to the Resident Engineer and quality management staff, documents it in the IDR, and tracks corrective actions to resolution.
  • Coordinates communications interfaces with train control, traction power and OCS, track, and existing operating systems.
  • Documents as-built conditions, including redline markups and configuration management.
  • Supports commissioning, cutover, and closeout activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, or a related field; an equivalent combination of communications systems experience and technical training will be considered.
  • EIT, PE, or relevant industry certification (such as RCDD or fiber optic certification) preferred.
  • Approximately 5+ years of experience in installation, inspection, testing, or commissioning of communications, fiber optic, or SCADA systems, preferably on transit or rail projects.
  • Working knowledge of fiber optic networks and SCADA systems.
  • Must be able to work on-site in Seattle full-time during construction.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Compensation: $110,000 to $175,000 per year (depending on qualifications)
