Description -

What a College Intern – System Engineer does at HP:

  • Support the design, development, and maintenance of manufacturing automation systems, including SCADA, PLC, FactoryTalk, and other Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) solutions.
  • Assist in troubleshooting automation systems and equipment under the guidance of senior engineers. Experience or coursework in Rockwell Automation systems is an advantage.
  • Participate in testing, validation, and debugging activities for manufacturing equipment, electronic systems, and automation processes.
  • Help collect, analyze, and interpret operational data to support process improvements, equipment reliability, and manufacturing performance.
  • Assist in developing and executing test plans, documenting results, and tracking corrective actions.
  • Support validation activities for manufacturing and chemical process operations, considering factors such as safety, quality, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, procedural records, and data logs for engineering projects and improvement initiatives.
  • Create reports, presentations, and knowledge-sharing materials to communicate project findings and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, IT, and Operations Technology teams.
  • Gain exposure to industrial networking, server infrastructure, and enterprise manufacturing systems that support factory operations.
  • Explore the application of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Analytics, Industrial IoT, and Digital Manufacturing within operational environments.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects focused on automation, digital transformation, and process optimization.

Individuals who do well in this role at HP, usually possess:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.
  • Able to commit for a 5-6 months full-time internship, starting in January 2027.
  • Basic knowledge of automation systems, PLCs, SCADA, HMI, or industrial control systems through coursework, projects, or internships.
  • Familiarity with programming, scripting, or automation tools is a plus.
  • Interest in manufacturing operations, process automation, Industry 4.0, and smart factory technologies.
  • Exposure to data analysis, statistics, or visualization tools is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Knowledge of AI, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, IoT, SAP, or ERP systems is an added advantage.
  • Understanding of industrial equipment, robotics, control panels, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, or electronic troubleshooting through academic projects or hands-on experience is beneficial.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Prior internship, project work, competition participation, or laboratory experience related to automation, manufacturing, or engineering is a plus.
