Job Description Summary

GE Aerospace is seeking a CNC Controls Technician with strong electrical and controls experience to support advanced manufacturing equipment at our Wilmington facility. This role focuses on troubleshooting, programming, and maintaining CNC control systems (HMI/PLC) on high-precision multi-axis machine tools. This is not a general maintenance role—we are specifically looking for candidates with hands-on CNC controls experience (Siemens, Fanuc, PLC, and machine diagnostics).

About the Role

You will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing electrical, control, and automation issues across CNC milling, grinding, turning, and cutting platforms with 2–5 axis control systems. You will work closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure machine precision, uptime, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair CNC control systems (Siemens & Fanuc)

  • Diagnose issues within HMI, PLC logic, drives, and servo systems

  • Modify and support PLC programs and ladder logic

  • Perform machine diagnostics related to:

    • Programming errors

    • Control system failures

    • Servo/drive issues

  • Support calibration and optimization using:

    • Renishaw ballbar and laser systems
  • Utilize software and tools such as:

    • Siemens Step 7

    • Fanuc Ladder

    • RSLogix 5000

    • Proficy

  • Work with electrical schematics, control diagrams, and CNC program interfaces

  • Partner with engineering and operators to validate fixes and improve performance

  • Maintain documentation of troubleshooting and repairs

Minimum Qualifications (Must-Have)

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • This role may encounter high risk or hazardous operations and/or include working shifts beyond a standard workweek. As such, a requirement of the role is to be at least 18 years of age by the time of joining.

  • 2+ years of hands-on CNC controls troubleshooting experience (REQUIRED)

  • Direct experience with:

    • Siemens OR Fanuc CNC controls

    • PLC troubleshooting (ladder logic)

  • Experience diagnosing issues in:

    • HMI interfaces

    • Drives / servo systems

  • Ability to read and interpret:

    • Electrical schematics

    • CNC control diagrams

  • Experience using diagnostic/test tools (multimeter, oscilloscope, etc.)

Preferred / Highly Desired

  • Experience with multi-axis CNC machines (2–5 axis)

  • Exposure to:

    • Renishaw ballbar / laser calibration systems

    • CNC machine accuracy testing and adjustment

  • Experience with:

    • Step 7 / Fanuc Ladder / RSLogix / Proficy

    • Linux or Windows-based CNC control systems

  • Familiarity with:

    • EPROM programming / backups
  • Associate degree or technical certification (automation, controls, mechatronics)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting: $42.72/hour + 10% shift differential

  • Day 1 benefits (medical, dental, vision)

  • Relocation available

Working Conditions:

  • Intermittent lifting of up to 50 pounds and manipulating bulky parts/tooling

  • Ability to bend, stoop or stand while performing maintenance tasks

  • Climbing and working at elevated heights

  • Using good manual dexterity and continuous analytical ability to troubleshoot electromechanical equipment

  • Exposure to chemicals while using proper PPE and following safety procedures

  • Working with voltages up to 480V while using proper PPE and following safety procedures
