Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all. We’re searching for a 3D Technical Director.

As a member of the Synthetic World & Sensor Simulation team, you will help further all three aspects of this mission. Synthetic environments are essential in evaluating rare edge cases in the real world, testing new technologies and methodologies, and exploring new environments for the Aurora Driver to operate in. It is an exciting time in the field with rapid advancements. Expect to move quickly and adapt while maintaining a focus on Aurora’s priority on safety.

In this role, you will

  • Build procedural scenarios using Houdini and use Aurora’s multi-modal simulator (camera, lidar, radar) to further the development of the Aurora driver.
  • Utilize and improve established workflows and pipelines to reliably deliver quality software and datasets.
  • Learn to debug large distributed simulations.
  • Build new tools and assets to improve the capabilities of Aurora’s simulator.
  • Learn where and how to use the latest AI tools to work more efficiently.

Required Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Houdini and an understanding of procedural and automated asset creation methodologies.
  • Practical experience with Python and general scripting (introductory knowledge of VEX is acceptable).
  • Passionate about learning, growing your technical skills, and willingness to dive in and help solve impactful challenges in autonomous vehicle development.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Universal Scene Description (USD) is a plus.

The base salary range for this position is $139,000-$223,000 per year. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
