Hartmann Canada Inc, in Brantford, Ontario is a division of Hartmann North America. We are the world leader of moulded fibre egg cartons. The demand for moulded fibre and environmentally sustainable products is rapidly increasing. Hartmann has committed and invested in this area to meet the growing demand of our products.
We are looking for a Warehouse Supervisor, this position offers meaningful ownership across warehouse execution, automation performance, and logistics coordination, with direct influence on service levels, cost control, and operational reliability.
We require the talent of an Automation Specialist to join our team.
Job Summary:
The Automation Specialist is a key member of the maintenance and operations team. The successful candidate will troubleshoot, commission, and upgrade various automation for plant equipment. The candidate will also actively support plant projects, emergency equipment failures and other automation activities to support the Maintenance team.
Schedule
- Full time permanent. This position will require working a 12-hour Night Shift from 7 pm 7 am
- Training for this position may take place during day shift business hours for 8-10 weeks.
- Scheduled on call support as backup.
Job Responsibilities
- Support the development, modification, and troubleshooting of PLC‑based control systems using Allen‑Bradley RSLogix / Studio 5000, including sequencing, interlocks, and basic process control logic
- Assist with programming, diagnostics, and commissioning of ABB robotic systems where applicable
- Make updates to SCADA and HMI applicationssuch as graphics, alarms, or setpointsto support operational and control system changes
- Read and interpret equipment manuals, electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control narratives to implement control and functionality improvements
- Modify existing control applications in response to operational needs to improve plant efficiency, reliability, and safety
- Create, update, and maintain electrical schematics and control documentation using AutoCAD for equipment or process changes
- Provide automation and controls support for maintenance activities, small projects, shutdowns, and continuous improvement initiatives
How you will make contributions that matter:
- Supporting the development, troubleshooting, and modification of PLC‑based control systems using Allen‑Bradley RSLogix / Studio 5000, including PID loops, interlocks, and basic sequence or batch logic for process equipment
- Assisting with the configuration, tuning, and troubleshooting of process control loops (flow, pressure, level, temperature)
- Supporting start‑up, shutdown, and operational equipment sequences within continuous and batch‑type processes
- Assisting with programming, diagnostics, and commissioning of ABB robotic systems where applicable
- Supporting the setup and troubleshooting of VFDs, motors, MCCs, sensors, and field instrumentation
- Maintaining and updating the GE Proficy iFIX SCADA system, including process graphics, setpoints, alarms, and trends
- Reading and interpreting electrical schematics, P&IDs, control narratives, and equipment manuals to support control and process changes
- Creating and updating electrical schematics and control documentation using AutoCAD to reflect equipment or process changes
- Providing automation and controls support during shutdowns, startups, and continuous improvement initiatives
You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications:
- A diploma, degree, or certificate in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related discipline
- Entry‑level to 3 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing automation environment (co‑op or internship experience welcomed)
- Basic understanding or academic exposure to process control concepts, including PID fundamentals and loop interaction
- Working knowledge or coursework related to Rockwell Automation platforms, including:
- RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000
- FactoryTalk View ME / SE (asset)
- Connected Components Workbench (asset)
- Exposure to ABB robotics, RobotStudio, or integrated robotic cells is considered an asset
- Familiarity with industrial communication networks, such as Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, IO‑Link, or AS‑i
- Experience with or education in 2D electrical CAD drafting (AutoCAD preferred)
- Understanding of industrial safety fundamentals, including LOTO, safety interlocks, and basic safety circuits
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with a practical, hands‑on approach
- Demonstrated ability to be an independent learner, with curiosity and initiative to research problems, build technical knowledge, and apply new concepts in a manufacturing environment
- Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with guidance and prioritization
- Strong communication and teamwork skills when supporting Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams
